The volume on my TV is not working which is not good as I've injured my leg and need something to take away the boredom! :( I have done all the scart plug pushing in/out, turning on/off etc. The sky box is working fine. When I put the volume up there is a low buzzing sound that gets louder but no one speaks. The telly is 8 months old so I am currently ruling out that it's broken. Please help an injured Damsel in Distress!!!

If the tv is only 8 months old then I suggest you contact the supplier to sort it out. It is under warranty. Have you tried the tv with just the normal aerial connection, i.e. disconnect the sky box completely? When you say sky box is working fine do you mean that you do not get buzzing?

Unfortunately OH has never tuned the box in so it can be used with a normal aerial and being clueless and having a dodgy leg there is no way I can do it today. I press all the buttons on sky and they work i.e. tv guide, channel changing etc. There must be some volume because this buzzing gets noisier when I increase the volume but there is no noise from the programmes i.e. no talking, music etc. Scart plug works because when I pull it out the pic disappears and then I push it back in again.
Have you tried a different scart lead? Sometimes they develop problems that affect picture and sound. Also get tv tuned in asap, that should have been done first to check tv was ok without having to rely on sky box. What would you do if sky box developed a fault. If you can't stand the buzzing until OH gets back then I suggest radio and/or a book.
Try turning scart lead round. They work either direction. If that does not work then get a new scart lead.

Thanks magicmerlin for taking the time to try and help me sort out the problem. I turned the TV back on again to swap the scart lead and the volume was working! ??? Oh well!
Does this happen to the TV after it's been on a while or is it pretty much straight away? Sounds like something may be overheating if so.

No, I turned the TV on after it had been off overnight. It was on standby though so if it happens again I'll turn standby off. I know its a waste of electricity but if I unplug sky do I need to reset it? I am so useless and wouldn't be able to do it, hence I keep sky on standby.
Does that mean that everything is ok now? If so all you need to do now is get the tv tuned in.
