Hello All. Sorry about this question but I really am a s.o.g. If I uninstall a programme is it gone forever or is there some way I can get it back if needed? The reason I ask is because I run a programme called SystemSuite8 professional by Avanquest .com I have used this company for at least the last 3 years and have found it very satisfactory, however a message told me I needed to install system suite9 which I did and bought online. When I tried to download/ install it it took hours to download and would not install, the installation sequence just came up trying to install a printer which I already have . I contacted Avanquest by email and they said remove avanquest8 and install latest version; which brings me back to my question can I reinstall a lost programme? All help appreciated

See Control Panel, Add/Remove if program is listed. If its there you could re-install.

If it's uninstalled the only way to get it back is from the original software .

a reliable review from a reliable trusted source - unlike avanquest - who have 40 reasons to dupe you (regularly it seems)
personall I'd use this as the excuse to get your money back - and get yourself a decent recognised security suite

(which I'm guessing is how you're doing it)

The basic rule of the internet is -
a message pops up
asks you for money
warns you you are riddled with viuses
tells you that the latest version is available
tells you that this is the best XXXX since time began

.... make mental note to self
tell them (silently) to stick it where the sun isnt shining
make another mental note NEVER to buy anything from these b@stards - ever, not never
if you are tempted - cut all your cards in half - burn your checkbook ... break all your fingers ........

seriously old thing - there is lots of good safe software out there... but

when it comes to security - never ever stray from the path - only ever buy a known mainstream suite.
(in my book kaspersky is about the best for beginners and most non techies (techies are an odd lot - they tend to have opinions - and there is no telling them ;-)

how do you do that
look on the magazine shelf in tesco
you'll see reviews of software/hardware which is based on reasonably reliable testing

Thank you all for your answers, especially AC. I read the reviews and realise that SS9 is not that good. I doubt if I will get my money back as it seems to be quite acomplicated process and not worth the hassle for the amount I paid. I will put it down to lessons learned which I should have known better at my age. Once again thank you and all the very best to you all. S.O.G

If you are unsure - post here ... or hit the mags
personally the mags tend to know better than we do ... I know what they say about security ...

They test the packages in a controlled envirinment - I don't have the facilities to do the tests myself ... so who are you going to trust?

do you have a security suite installed ... ?
if you buy online - you really do need a decent one

the free ones are OK for the safe surfer
but where money is involved ... it's worth the spend

Hello again AC. Yes I still have system suite 8 by Avanquest still running which I paid for last year,( expires about November this year). Apart from that I have a couple of free sites ...Avast and superantispyware. I did have AVG but for some reason it stopped working and I don't know why. maybe they are conflicting sites so any information will be appreciated

the rule (?) is 1 virus scanner, 1 firewall - and as meny malware scanners as you can be bothered with

virus
AVG, AVAST, AVIRA are free - I pay for kaspersky
if you are buying - the suite is the best option - everything is integrated and works together.

firewall
komodo, zone alarm - both free

spybot search and destroy, malware bytes, ad-aware - all free

there are others - but be careful

CCleaner will keep your system clean of rubbish (once a month or so)
finally defrag 2 or 3 times a year

all free - and better
