Renault Espace ECU

Hi....wondering if anyone out there can assist please? I have a Renault Espace 2l injection 1990 model. Had to have a diagnostic test done recently as whilst driving the car engine 'cut out' could not get her started again...having replace a few things ie cracked distributor cap and heating sensor, I have been told the fuel ECU needs replacing. Any idea if this is a job that needs to be done by a professional - is it easy to replace...ie can the wiring system just be disconnected from old one and put onto new one? .....thanks
