I don't believe it......the very same password that hotmail rejected is now being rejected by ebay.

have you cleaned out all the rubbish?
2 things that get me (too often)
autocomplete - if on autopilot I always double type the password (you generally get the warning though)
but the tools | internet options | browsing history | settings | everytime i visit the webpage causes the most problems at work
you end up trying to use old form data - out of date cookie info - and then it just starts working (when the cache empties)
download this
http://www.ccleaner.com/download
it's free (just a lot of donation requests)
and if you use it occasionally (once a month at most)
you should get the benefits
the default settings aren't too aggressive - just install and run

if it had only been hotmail then I would say it's a glitch...
For hotmail and ebay to reject the same password (and I assume you do use your HM address for the login on Ebay) just seems too much of a coincidence to me and I would suspect that somebody has got into yout hotmail account somehow and has just tried the same email address/password combo on Ebay.
If you have a paypal account registered on your Ebay account I would consider contacting paypal as a precaution.
I'd also think about changing the password for any other important sites that you use the same login details for.

Has your identity or account already been stolen?
If your User ID and password have been used by someone else to buy or list items via your account, you must take immediate action to secure both your eBay account and your identity. There are precise instructions on how to do this on the Account Theft page.
If you've received emails or telephone calls about items you haven't bought or sold (and they don't appear in your account), someone may have registered an eBay account using your contact details. Please tell us what has happened.
How to report fraud or eBay policy breaches
If one of your buyers has backed out of a transaction, see Final Value Fee credits to find out how to claim your Final Value Fee and report the member.
If someone has stolen your listing text or images, go to the Image and Text Theft page and click the "Report" link.
To report other suspicious activity, click the "Report" link at the bottom of this page.

The next thing to do is sign in to your eBay account.
If you can't sign in
Contact eBay straight away. Make sure you've changed your email password so that your email account is secured.
We'll look into your eBay account and if it has been compromised, we'll work with you to make it secure again. We'll ask you to change your password - not give us your password - and if necessary, put your account on hold until we're able to make it secure.
If you can sign in
Start working through these steps to secure your account.
1. Change your password. You can do this in My eBay. Make sure your password is something new and unique, using both letters and numbers.
2. Change the secret question and answer on your eBay account. If you don't have a secret question, you can create one now. Read tips on choosing an effective secret question.
3. Check the contact information you registered on your eBay account and change anything that isn't right. If someone got into your account they may have changed your contact information.
4. Check on My eBay for any active bids or listings that you didn't make. If you do find any, you may be able to retract the bids and end the listings. If you see any unauthorised fees on your selling account, get in touch with eBay to request a credit.
