Freeview Box Freezing

Hi,

Can anyone please tell me what causes a freeview box to freeze the picture, and what is the best place to position it?

I have limited space so either in top of the VCR or the TV. Apologies if I have posted this in the wrong forum.

I have a Goodmans GDB 2 freeview box from Argos and it was absolutly rubbish: it kept resetting itself, the picture froze and pixillated badly. I went on the trusty web and found a whole site dedicated to Goodmans GDB 2 complaints. It also had a firmware update. It took a bit of messing about with null-modem cables etc but eventually I updated it and it has been as good as new. If you don't have a  Goodmans GDB 2, I would look into upgrading your aerial.

Another cause of persistant freezing and hassle is overheating due to inadequate airflow. I would put the box on top of the tv where the air can get to it (making sure it does not hang over the rear vent slots of the set).

I have repaired many pieces of home Av equipment over the last ten years needlessly damaged by people cramming , say, a video, satellite decoder , cable box etc. into  a tiny airless space in a TV cabinet one on top of the other.

Signal is the problem, replace old coaxial lead from aerial with double screened cable and also have a good aerial and problem will be resolved
