which ipod
8 Answers
I want to buy an ipod, for sole use in my car (i have an mp3 socket and the correct cable). I want to hold at about 60-100 CDs on it, about 1000 songs would be enough.
I don't know which one to buy though as I know nothing about them. I looked at the 4GB ipod shuffle but I was told it is useless in the car as the controls are on the headphone lead which obviously I won't be using in the car.
I definitely want an ipod as opposed to any other MP3 player as my friend has thousands of songs/CDs on ITunes which I am going to copy on.
Any advice or suggestions?

It has the touch screen and coverflow making it very quick to find and play the tracks you want.
It is very high spec though. As well as music you can play movies, tv programmes, games, and via wifi you can email and surf the net.
The nano is good but has a smaller screen. The classic has the largest capacity, but probably more than you need.
Be warned, there is a new iPod Touch due out soon. It might be worth waging a small while.

The nano is the obvious choice if you only want a few thousand songs on it.
The only downside is that, as Gromit says, the screen is fairly small (perhaps hard to read in the car?), and it's the circular control.
The iPod touch is more expensive, but can store more songs, and has a much larger screen and easier interfacce for browsing songs (just use your finger).
I'd encourage you to try them at an Apple store, if you have one nearby.
The touch will also let you check your email and browse the web (as well as read books, play games, etc.) if you're at a wifi hotspot.
