Freesat reception??

I brought a Freesat box, and when the aerial installer came, he said that because of a tree, I could not get a signal.
He couldn't fix the dish where I would get one(signal), as it was on the neighbours wall. Being that it's Council Property, I asked them for permission. It was denied.

My question is. Is it possable to get a portable dish?

Does anyone have any ideas?

yes it is possible to get a portable dish, but they are just normal dishes on a tripod.

Where are you planning to put this dish, and why couldn't the installer put one there?

I'm still thinking about it. He was quite a young man, and didn't seem to want to know, he looked to me like he just wanted to go home.

He got a signal from the flat about six foot away on the neighbour's wall. I was thinking of hooking it on the gutter, with a long feed-in, into my window.

And yes! I know it sounds a stupid Idea, but being an ex Army radio operator, I have worked to morse stations on a length of string.

as for ideas...

the dish looks about 30� upwards so check your neighbours dishes for the general direction it needs to point and try and find any point on your property that would have a clear line of sight to the sky.

if you have a garden, it might go on pole somewhere, or even the trunk of the tree causing the problem (if it's on your property)

Funny enough ACthe, two years ago, the council did ask if I would mind them chopping the tree down, but I said that it shaded my flat from the sun.

Talk about 'live and learn'.

Trees can be a pest when trying to get a decent signal. When its windy the branches sway into the path of the incoming signal. I sometimes wonder why they stationed the satellite so low to the horizon?

That will be a geostationary orbit then, they kinda have to put the satellite over the equator

As it is a Council Property, is there any point in checking how many of your neighbours are interested in satellite TV and see if you can get a communal dish installed? We have done this in our block of flats and it get the optimum position of the dish for every body. Individual residents can them make their minds up whether to connect to it at all, to just have a freesat, or to go the whole hog and get a Skybox
