I recently downloaded 'SpySubtract', which seems to be easy to use.  I have just scanned my system and it find no spyware on my PC.  I then ran SpyBot, which has found 34 spyware related files on my PC.  Can anyone direct me to an authorative comparison of all the anti-spyware programs out there?  Is the best way to use several, in order to cover all bases (as it were)?

I use spybot s + d: but remember to do the updates!!! and then immunise. I then use adaware (again remember to do the updates). Between them I get rid of most. If there was a free one that removed them all, I would be keen to hear about it. Even better if you could install it, configure it, update it and schedule it through a group policy. Symantec: are you listening?

I too use Ad-aware SE and SpyBot. Someone on AB recommended Spysubtract to for removing the Coolbar. Although I hadn't had any trouble with the Coolbar I downloaded Spysubtract anyway and ran it. It succeeded in finding threats that the other two programs had missed. All of my definition files were up-to-date and the programs were set for maximum scans.

I think the genereal answer is that some clear threats that the others don't. It is best to run a couple of different ones on your system for this reason. I now run all of the above three.

When I was looking for this type of software I Googled for some opinions and generally found that Adaware and Spybot have good reputations and are both highly recommended.

What is freeware Spyware software for? For removing spyware? No. It's for forcing you to upgrade. Some will find more than others cos they label lots of innocent stuff as spyware. Have a good look at logs...often it's just 'favourites' , which are harmless. P
if you are willing to pay a little bit of money, PestPatrol is on of the best around for getting rid of spyware.
