Digital Camera - Fujifilm FinePix A345

Dropped it and now it won't work. No damage to body. When I press powerON a green light flickers for a fraction of a second but nothing else happens. The lens stays in its housing.
Has any other ABer had a similar problem with a digital camera? I am firmly of the impression that taking it to a camera repair place is not the answer. The camera is over three years old and I suspect the cost of any repair would exceed the price of a superior brand new camera. I'd like a new camera anyway!
It would be nice to have it as a spare (perhaps kept in glove compartment of car) if I could get it to work. Might it just be a small fault which could be rectified with a sharp tap with a hammer on a particular spot or something similarly untechnical?

loose battery - ccd cracked - could be anything - sometimes a "slight knock" just slightly knocks something important out
paddy is on the money - check/change battery before you do anything - it's as liable to damage as the rest of the cam
if no joy buy a new one - then take the old one to bits at leisure ... that way if you fix it - it's a bonus
