Photobooks and scanning in old photos

I am currently using an online service to make a photobook of old photos. I am scanning some old photos, doing a quick colour/brightness adjustment and then placing them in the book. I know the quality will be far from perfect but has anyone else done this as I would like to know how they turned out? I do not have the time (or knowledge) to individually manipulate each photo as there are hundres and hundreds so this will have to do! Anyone else tried doing this?

Have scanned uploaded photos going back 1850s, 4 generations through both WW. A lot are black & white and handpainted.

Reproduction is dependant on printer.

Well you know what - I have an HP printer that's 6 years old now, and I've printed out some brilliant pics on photographic paper. Even A4 size comes out beautifully...but sorry, I've never scanned anything in any shape or form. : (

C'mon Ice - upgrade fgs! HP 550, 4 in 1 - phone + ansa/fax/scan/copy; reasonably priced toners at Tesco.

My dear tamb...you have no idea how mean the OH is. I've been asking for a new computer for months. The reply was negative, because it's just seen as my "toy".
So I asked for a new Biro...and he said no to that as well....

Same with my late OH Ice as he wasn't technophobe. I just got money for new seasons outfits & spent it on technology.

Well I'd prefer to have the clothes myself. I'm pretty crap with technology. I used to sneak out of the IT lessons at school and go for a ciggie instead - but now I don't even do that. I'm getting sadder by the minute!! : )

I suppose part of the quality issue is the scan another the photo book printer. I have prepared for my father's 80th birthday with http://fotoinsight.co.uk/cewe-photo-books.html . Most of the pictures of my dad I had to scan in.. My scanner allows 200 dpi max. It worked well on all those pictures that I did not make larger than the original print
