Ethernet Port Problem
6 Answers
Hello :) I've recently moved home and only just been able to get my broadband up and running.
My ethernet port connection seems to be broken though. I could initially get the ethernet to connect (light on router to show) and broadband to work but wiggling the ethernet cable where it connects to the laptop and wedging it up a bit.
It has now stopped working at all as the light is not lighting on the router and I can't get on broadband.
The phoneline port next to it is ok as I can get on dial up.
Has anyone got any ideas what I can try to do to fix it myself?
Thanks for any help.

I've tried 3 different ethernet cables and they are all the same.
Initially when I plugged the ethernet cable in the port I had to wedge it upwards to get it to work and now it won't work at all regardless of which cable I have in.
The internal bit of the port seems a bit loose itself though the phone port is fine as I can get on dial up with the phone line directly connected.
I have a speedtouch router and E System Notebook on Windows XP if that helps.

sounds like it's the port that's faulty then - probably caught it at some point - it would be a new mobo ...
your options are wireless?
no model number(s) - but assume your lappy/router has wifi?
or
a usb adapter (I'd go for the belkin)

or pcmcia adapter

then again you could follow tamborine's advice and get a box of tooth picks <];-P
