PC to Laptop downloading

I wish to download programmes (on disc) to my laptop.
i have bought an 8gb flash drive scandisk cruzer but all i can download to it is a shortcut to whichever programm it is.
What am I missing.

you need to be a little more precise..

what do you mean the programs are on disc? are they originals? if not how did they get on there?

also why not just put the disc into the laptop? or is it a netbook with no cd drive?

sorry if I did not explain myself fully the disks are original programme disks and my laptop is a netbook without a disk drive
