Windows vista ..update

Just had a windows update on my vista sony viao laptop and my connection icon has gone missing, any one know how to restore it, been on net for ages now and cant find an answer...Thanks.

possible solution right click taskbar then properties go to notification area either uncheck hide inactive icons or check network in yhe always show area.
