Help! Stupid question re mobile phone!

I've just had a new mobile, a Samsung SGH-E250 with a slider to open. I know this is a daft question but I rarely use them and now I need to keep it on for an important call. Do I need to keep the slider open to leave it in "open" mode to await the call? The screen fades to black after a minute or two so I'm never sure .... apologies if it's bleedin' obvious, I'm a real Luddite and the guide book doesn't say. Ta ever so. Need to know before 1pm if poss.

No - be pretty useless if phones only accepted call when they were open!
