battery/power icon missing

Power icon missing on vista laptop. It seems every time i get a windows update, it removes my battery icon. I have asked this question before and have restored icon, but today in Properties/Control panel the power icon is now greydout/disabled.....any ideas anyone?

This also happens on my Vista laptop.
try:
1)logout and log back in, and properties are no longer greyed out,so you can reset them.
2)If that doesn't work, logout again and then restart the laptop and login and they should no longer be greyed out
