How long should food take to pass through your system?

Am quite curious as had a camera pill scan the other day and nurse said it had gone right through my system and left it in under 5 and a half hours.

Seems a bit quick but I thought it could be a good thing to have a rapid bowel transit time.

Anyone know what kind of time it should take? Am quite interested in learning how things work digestive wise seeing as my system is so crap lol :)

Fab, thanks Sqad :) The nurse was saying they needed an 8 hour scan so was a bit worried :)

I'd have been quite facinated to see it but no, I think it just takes loads of pictures on the way through which get stored on a little monitor you wear then they take the monitor and download the piccies to look at.

Were you eating normally during this time? The time you quote seems quite fast to me. While there is no 'normal' time for this the usual range is thought to be about 12 - 36 hours.
