I've got AVG 8.5.424 free but it keeps telling me there's an update which I have to pay for but not sure I need that for it to continue working properly.
to get ID protection with that version it's £15.99 for a years subscription by the way
avg is free if you download the free version not the trial version i dont get any pop ups to upgrade
as deggers says, as long as you downloaded the free version you will not get prompted to pay anything.

if you have downloaded the trial version you need to un-install it and then install..........

Now a little while ago, I would have said download the free version of AVG (and zone alarm for a firewall)........ now I would recommend comodo's free internet security as the best option to replace both.

it is the free edition I have rather than the trial version (as far as I can tell anyway)
Avg free 9 is available now, if you want to continue with avg. Scroll down and click the free version.
