I'm new to Facebook. How can I use it to promote a public competition?

This is a fund raising project for charity. I want to set up a photo competition and need to reach a wide audience? Can I use Facebook for this - or Twitter come to that?

If you are willing to pay for advertising, then you can use Facebooks' advertising tool here

It is highly customisable and you can really be specific about who you want to target.

If you do not want to pay, you could start a Facebook group, invite all your friends and tell them to invite theirs, soon you could have a huge group of people who are aware of the competition. Below is the link to create a page.
