which laptop

a friend of mine wants to buy another laptop she has up to £400 to spend what is the best one to get for speed and lightweight.she did have an acer which in my opinion was a rubbish speed.
any ideas will be welcomed as so many out there at the moment.i have a compaq presario which i absolutely love.
