i tried to sell something on ebay, like i have many times before, and it wouldn't let me until i verified my paypal account, this is fine until i went through everything then i had to check my bank details and confirm, when i read it proper there was a box saying i was agreeing to direct debit from my account to paypal??i didn't understand what i would be signing up for,i was under the impression it was just an extra security check for my benefit, not for some d.d to be set up?anyone else had to do this?i know it says that paypal will debit small deposits of cash into my account,i then check and let paypal know when i've recieved it so they know i am who i say i am ,as im the only one to access my account ,it all just sounds a bit far fetched???

When you make a payment, Paypal uses any money in your Paypal account first, but if there are insufficient funds it takes it by direct debit from your bank account. I've not had any problems with this system.

yeah i understand that,so do you think the direct debit thing is just so they can take the money out of my bank if i buy anything and have no money in my paypal account?have you verified yours?
Yes, I've had mine for a few years now, but had to do the verifying at the beginning. As you say, the DD is so that they can take the money direct from your account which they only do if there nothing in the Paypal account.
I can understand your confusion and would feel much the same myself. Why should you have to set up a direct debit when YOU are the one who is selling something? If you can access your bank account on line it should be possible to delete direct debits if you wish. Sorry I'm not being much help but frankly I don't like the sound of it.
Maybe it's just another level of protection to help buyers and sellers alike. There are a lot of scammers selling on ebay.
. If you sell something on ebay and do not send it by recorded delivery the person who purchased the item can say they have not received it , paypal will just take the money out of your bank account to refund the money to them.
Pinkcowprint, sounds like you're a bit uncomfortable with the situation. No harm in being too careful. i think it's good to follow you gut instincts. why don't you email paypal and verify with them. log on to their website and contact them through their website, they will then verify if it's legitimate or not. i would if i was unsure.
