I am running win xp and i have a ntl braodband connected by usb 1 will i get better speeds installing a ethernet card,if so what would be the best one.........

you will notice no difference at all. USB is is something like 10Mb per sec transfer rate, so unless your connection is faster that this (which it wont be!), there is no point at all in changing it.
