I have a Nokia 6600 and when I use is via infrared as a modem I get a connection speed of 9kbps. Is there ANY way of increasing this?

Thanks

Nope, that sounds about right. It is very slow. Only good for email, i suppose.

Yep, as has been previously mentioned, 9.6K is what is expected. However, with compression I believe you can get up to 34K. Having never used it - only GSM PCMCIA cards I can't advise how you go about setting this up.

IR communications happen at 9600 baud.  I think there is a new standard that is quicker.  Maybe you could use bluetooth to hook up to it.  That works well and the bottle neck there would be the GPRS connection.  You can get bluetooth USB dongles fairly cheaply I think.
