widescreen dvd camcorder

i'm thinking of buying a camcorder that uses dvd format , but i see that sony have widescreen camcorders. i have widescreen t v would a non widescreen camcorder result in " chopped pictures " when played back ?

Should make no difference at all. The image might be a little stretched, tho, but the TV should have a setting to stop this happening.
