Hi, I have a 27" iMac and am looking for a scanner for it. Ideally Firewire 800 but if USB 2.0 is the only option, fair enough. Any recommendations? Cheaper the better, but the ability to scan slides and negatives is a must.

i looked at the HP Scanjet G3110 but every review seems to indicate that the negative scanning is pretty poor. Over to you, folks!

I have an epson film scanner and I would recommend to anybody.
I have an older Epson Perfection 2400 which works fine on my Mac -so I wouldn't worry about compatibility. -I did see complaints about the software (Arcsoft) supplied- I agree with them- it's poor. Probably better not to install it at all. Instead use Adobe Elements for editing or you could download the free 'Gimp' photo editor which is very good too although I do prefer the latter....

Thanks, folks. I'm favouring the Epson - and I'll give Arcsoft a miss and just install the drivers. What is it about Scanner manufacturers and software? I've used both Canon and HP scanners in recent years and in both cases, the software looks like it was written ten years previously!
