Well I had another message when I just signed on as follows:- The file or directory C\documents and settings\my name\local settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content IE5\4SIAGEGT\destop.ini is corrupt and unreadable. Please run chkdsk utility. Can anyone tell me what this file does. Shall I try running chkdsk /f again.

Thanks

As a temporary internet file, it can be deleted, but judging by all your previous posts, I think you need to consider replacing your hard disk.

Thanks Rojash, the laptop is old and I am going to replace it, but would like to make it last another couple of months before I do so. This morning seems okay, although everything is backed up onto separate hard drive just in case.
