How to get rid of? Have tried."My computer"-Presario C-R click-properties-tools- tick "automatically fix file system errors"......comes up."..needs exclusive access to windows""restart computer" ...so I do, and up comes (again) "windows-corrupt file-run CHKDSK utility" This can go on and on....Any ideas? Thanks in advance...John

click start > run and type in cmd and hit enter.

In the command prompt window that comes up type "chkdsk /f" and hit enter, then restart your computer and it should check the disk at startuop.

Hi, Just tried that....same thing happens Forgot to mention, just before it is fully started up comes a warning "BOING" and a wide message with a red cross on the left....it is far too quick to read,so I don't know what it says!!! John
johntywino you're going to have to find out, even if that means rebooting and writing down bits at a time. As far as I know you can't stall a PC on boot, well unless you haven't got a keyboard plugged in or if theres a HDD problem etc.

Just tried..."BOING" went,no big flashed warning BUT "Windows-corrupt file" C:\windows\system 32\config\system log corrupt and unreadable-run CHKDSK utility.....(as always) in bottom r/h corner bubble......Tis 'opeless! John
I'm going to let chuck advise you on this one because I tend to do things lets say a little drastic. I'd be backing everything up then formatting, especially if its a newish pc (or a dell) where you just click a few buttons, press a few keys and wham you have a PC factory reset...
