I have extolled the virtues of the humble Spam Fritter a number of times on this site yet it is clearly evident that the majority of users hate them with a passion.

Consisting of nothing more than ham and pork with a little sugar, salt, water, potato starch and a hint of sodium nitrate to help keep the colour, before being encased in crispy batter, why are they so frowned upon?

Admittedly the chippy ones need to be 'degreased' before consumption but once this has been done, serve with chips and mushy peas, a squirt of Ketchup and Voila!

Is it a Class thing? A North/South thing? A pleb thing?

And why is it the Saveloy does not receive the same level of hatred? Just look at it:

I love spam fritters...........but am not a saveloy fan........
I must say I have never tried a spam fritter, I do however love saveloys! With chips and minted mushy peas! Om nom nom!
i hate both equally, how anyone can put either in their mouth is beyond me.......

The chippy were my Mum lives does Spam fritters
and my Mum used to make them for our tea ....
I've not eaten one in years ...so food for thought !!!

I could never find a Spam Fritter in the chippys 'ooop north' (well The Wirral)...
Saveloys are just so wrong !

A god old battered sausage is always a good option too!

I never have fish fro the chippy though as very funny about bones!
