Which e-mail provider.

If you were to move to a new ISP and this ISP does not provide an e-mail service...
Who or what .. would be the best alternative way of receiving your mail ?
I know there will be many providers...but I thought I'd ask here for advice first, as someone always has the answer...and it would make sense to avoid the pitfalls.

Never heard of an ISP that didn't provide e-mail service, but in the event:

1st choice: Register my own domain name, and use it with a hosting service.
2nd choice: gmail.com

BE..broadband ....have great reviews as a provider...but dont supply an e-mail service.

I dont think ti is a good idea to tie your email address to your ISP. If ever you change ISP you lose your email address.

Best to have an independant email address with say googlemail (gmail).

Then if you change ISP you will still have your email address.

BE Broadband claims to the only UK ISP which guarantees never to 'throttle' download speeds for any type of traffic. So Alavahalf is right to be considering it.

There are loads of free web-based email services but very few of them support POP3 (or IMAP). That means that you can only access your mail via the web, rather than via a dedicated mail client, such as Outlook, Outlook Express, Windows Mail or Thunderbird.

Gmail is the most popular service for those who require a mail account which can be accessed both via the web and through a mail client. Gmail electronically scans all of your mail, so that appropriate(?) advertising content can be appended. Some people don't mind that but others strongly object to it:

I have never felt the advertisting to be a problem on gmail, in fact I dont even notice it.

Top answer Buenichio...I thought I'd change to BE broadband as my neighbour has had it for about a year now, and raves about it..he is into his online gaming and needs to have the biggest fastest of everything.
I needed to change as Tiscali got chewed up by TalkTalk...I have set up a Gmail A/c.
but with your advice I shall set up another independent one.
I've probably just been lazy for years now, and have been plodding along with outlook express being nursed with mailwasher...it's worked fine upuntil now.

Foe anyone interested...I've done plenty research before changing to BE.. I was going to try BT but their customer service leaves something to be desired.
After all their current advertising...this link helped me make my descision.
