Is it possible to find themes that use the whole window and not just the headers/footers, so to speak.

The menus at the top and the footer are the only bits of the browser that are "built in". Anything in the main browser window is determined by the website you're looking at, so those are the only bits a theme can modify.

I guess it can be likened to having a silver, black or brown surround to your telly - it still doesn't affect the programmes you're watching!
a quick search has found this http://www.tothepc.co...wallpaper-in-firefox/ - I haven't tried it but it says that it lets you use any image as background wallpaper
