Replacing timer for central heating
6 Answers
I want to replace the Danfoss Randall 103 on my mothers oil central heating system with a more up to date, easier to see and use digital one. My mother cannot see the dial very well on the old one and has trouble turning it. Anyone recommend a model with the same back plate and wiring system as the 103? Thank you.

hi foxyferret i replaced my sons programmer ( is this what you refer to as your timer) with a danfoss although it was like for like, as it was an older model danfoss but the new one was not a problem. it was wired in the backplate which stays in the wall and the new one fits into the backplate because the manufacturers have standardised the backplate. i had to move a couple of small sliders in the programmer to suit my arrangement, as per the instructions.the new display is nice and bright and easy to read.
if you have a local plumbcentre or screwfix outlet then go there and have a chat with the chaps behind the counter and they will help you,im sure

Thanks Terrence 7556 for your info. I think what we will do is get another 103 programmer, same as she has already. She will be happy that it is not broken even though I think she was hoping to get something easier to operate. Bearing in mind what you and docspock have said, I think we will replace like for like as she maybe would not understand the digital model. At least she will know how to operate the Danfoss as she is used to it. I will look on ebay to see if they have one. Good info about the backplate terence, I am hoping to do this myself when I visit her next week with the aid of my trusty DIY manual. If all else fails, we will call an electrician. Regards and thanks to you both.
