Hi
I have just recently moved from Orange to BT, big mistake. When i moved i was told that I would get around 5.5 meg download speed. When I set up the modem they always say there is a stabilisation period of 10 day to achieve the maximum speed possible on the line.

So ten days passed and I was given 2.5 meg top. So I rang Mumbi calling and told them that this speed was not right. They stated that there was nothing wrong with the line. So I called the following day, again they said they see no problems at their end, but they will reset the line. 12 hours passed and low and behold 135 kbps throughput speed with a 72 kbps down speed.

Again I rang back technical help and they sent an engineer out. When he eventually arrived, he did find a fault on the line and rectified the problem. He now stated that I was getting around 7.0 to 7.5 down speed and 448 up. (Happy Days)

So I ran a speed test after he had left, and again a throughput of 135 and a down of 92 kbps a slight improvement. I tried to download a film and had a down speed of 12 kbps, not my usual 800 to 1.1 meg So tech help got another phone call and again" no sir there is no fault", even the modem/ router settings showed I was getting 7.0 down speed. So now another technician is coming out. I have ran speed test numerous times and on different testers all showing the same poor speed. I have done all the computer clean ups and reset the modem. I am running Mac osx Snow leopard

What my question is or questions are. Does the throughput speed mean that is what I am getting as a maximum speed at the moment? Can it be cured? Or am I going to look a complete plonker when the tech guy comes on Monday.

Thanks in advance

I had a similar problem when my BT Broadband was increased form 8Mbps to 20Mbps. It wasn't that the line was slow it kept disconnecting. I posted my query on this BT Help Forum http://community.bt.com/ and I received help from them via that. I didn't call Mumbi Calling as I can't understand what they say and they don't understand what I say.

Your line does take time to stabalise, about 10 days, and I was advised to not switch the Home Hub off as it will never acclimatise to your line. Since leaving the Home Hub switched on 24/7 I have no problems and my line has settled down to a download speed of 10.5 Mbps and upload of 0.76Mbps. As my PC is connected to the hub via ethernet cable I disabled the wireless to save power.

Are you using BT's Speedtester or one of the many you can find on the web? BT's speedtester is found here:- http://www.speedtester.bt.com/ give it a try and see what you get.
My BT home hub's on 24-7 and I don't have any noticeable problems.
I too experience this i used to check my internet speed test in this site http://www.ip-details.com/internet-speed-test/ they are giving unlimited access to test the internet speed... now everything is good... Media URL: http://www.ip-details.com/internet-speed-test/
