This may sound dumb but can anyone tell me how I resize some pictures I have taken and downloaded using a fujifilm A310 using finepix softwear I need to get them down to about less thank 100 k

I don't know that particular software, but look for "Image Size" (or something similar) then simply type in the size that you want to reduce the image to. I usually resize to around 800x600 if I'm sending them on for viewing on-screen. You then need to use "Save As" and save the image as either a JPG or a PNG, both of these will compress the image data size. Personally I prefer a 256 colour PNG.
Open the picture in Paint and resize using the Stretch/Skew tool in the Image menu.  Reduce the height and width percentages to reduce the size and at the same time keep the right apect ratio.  Then Save As with a new name changing the file type to jpg or png.

No it doesn't sound dumb at all, far from it!

I have the Finepix software with my Olympus camera, but after downloading and saving I immediately send the lot to My Pictures, then resize, crop and generally fiddle about if the pics need it with a fabulous bit of free software called Irfanview. Download this little file and you'll wonder how you managed without it. Here it is
