I have just started a small business in marquee hire and got to thinking about how to advertise
our service cost effectively, the obvious came to mind such as local newspaper ads, flyer's etc.
then somebody suggested having a website built, could anybody give me some idea of how much
it would cost for a website of about 4 or 5 pages?

£300 including a doman name (dm name being .co.uk or .com) is probably an average. You might have to add on maintenance and storage costs.

Also setup a page in facebook and promote it.

Thanks TTG, as I am new to all of this what are storage costs as I thought once it was on the net that was it?
Also are you allowed to put it on facebook as I thought that would be advertising?
(do you mean put it on my own page or start a new account with facebook such as the

About £100 a page for the website, about £10-£20 to buy the domain name for 2 years and then about £10 a month max for the hosting charge.

Buy a domain from someone like webs.com, where you pay about £30 a year for masses of space, and you make the website yourself using their easy templates.

Thanks for your input JJ I just looked at that site and I just may give it a go but I am
a total computer numpty which is why I was going to pay to have a site made,
apart from that dont the professionals have your site put on search engines or is
that another thing you have to pay for?

These DIY sites are idiot proof.

If you can type with 2 fingers, you can build a website.

To publish online, you click a button that says "Publish"

You might also consider the free advertising on Vivastreet and Gumtree.
