Problem with dead mice!

Good morning all.
Mr Mazzywoo has a problem on his laptop. He has a wireless mouse and also a plug in mouse and for some reason, both have stopped working. We have had a look in all the settings and the control panel isn't even showing an installed mouse-just the touchpad. We are wondering if one of our cats has casually strolled across the keyboard and knocked some setting out. Oh, he has just said the computer isn't recognising his camera either!
Any ideas on what this could be?
Many thanks,
Maz

Try "System Restore" to an earlier date when the mouse(s) worked OK.
Probably too late now, but it might have just needed a re-boot to rectify the driver problem.
I presume that all these devices (wired mouse, wireless mouse and the camera) all plug into USB ports?

if so it's sounding like it's a USB port problem, is there anything else plugged into the USB ports and does that work if so?

Thank you all for your replies. Have tried system restore-still nothing. Re: anything else working in USB ports-the printer is fine so it's just his camera and mouse(s) that don't function. He is now retrieving data onto an external hard-drive then is going to 'Ghost' the laptop. If it turns out not to be a software prob, the laptop is just about still under guarantee so he will take it in and see if it can be sorted.
Thanks again for your suggestions.
Best wishes
Maz
