Problem with DVR

Hitachi digital video recorder, model HDR253, will not respond, makes a noise as if something is stuck and trying to kick in. Cannot do a reformat as of course the menu won`t appear. Any tips??

Have you tried just unplugging it from the mains for 5minutes?

Yes chuck I have and it starts to whirr and then as I say sounds like something stuck. Looks like another product back to shop. Was my TV last time and even though 18 months old I dug my heels in and got a full refund. Things used to last!!

My guess is hard drive, but not good either way. hope they replace it OK Mamya.

Swap it for a Philips DVP3380, something like that.
Upgradeable .. plays anything, HDMI, Coax, and USB2 stick input.

You don't need after sales on a 50quid player that works for 5 years and plays anything. I have 3 different Philips cheap players, including a 5980 and 5990. Great.
