Yes they can

Yes, and they normally come with a latest map guarantee so you can get the latest maps onto it for free (if they aren't already) when you first get it, then they are about £40 for map updates.

But seriously, it's not generally worth updating the maps any more often than every few years, roads don't tend to change that much.

Maybe 1 thing worth always looking into updating is Speed Cameras.
