I have just looked on a camera we bought 2 years ago and it displays 11 pictures that we took in Tenerife, I then removed the SD card, put it into a card reader which I then put into the USB port on my
laptop, not only are the 11 pictures of Tenerife on there but also another 30 or so of a Caribbean holiday
we had earlier, when I put the card back into the camera it shows only the original 11 photo's so why is it missing all of the others, the card is not locked in anyway.

it is probably because you had previously deleted the Caribbean shots using your camera. Deleting files and documents doesn't actually remove them, it just makes the space they took up in storage available for reuse (overwriting the document) when needed at a later time. Your photos have not yet been overwritten so can be seen by other computers that are not aware of them being deleted. A point to remember if you want to remove "sensitive" documents. Delete is not enough by a long chalk

Thanks for a Great easy to understand answer, and yes I can remember deleting them using the camera so I guess that is exactly what has happened. it just shows you that if you had anything to hide (which I don't) you need to be so careful..
