USB ports on my PC(Xp) no longer detect my cell phone

The USB ports on my PC(Xp) no longer detect my NEC 338 cell phone, though my wife’s identical phone can be detected ok.
Both phones operate ok in normal use.
I have re-loaded the driver. I can see via the PC device manager that my phone does not communicate when I plug it in, but my wife’s does.
It is as if the phone is not connected (but when I immediately change connection to my wife’s identical phone it is recognised straight away, yet when we used them a few weeks ago they were both detected ok and we copied data to our respective files on the PC).
I suspect there is a problem in my phone. However, the phone has no available USB software setting options to adjust, and other significant settings of both phones are set the same.
Is there any way I can fix this problem (the NEC 388 is no longer supported)?

I would suggest that there may be a problem with the connections inside the phone at the back of the USB socket.
Hi Cloggs,
As you are using XP then go to the Microsoft Download site and download the AUTO SYNC program which is designed to sync with mobile devices such as phones or GPS devices. If you were using Windows 7 or Vista then the moblie device center should do it. It is worth a try
