If you put 220V through the laptop you will probably blow the power supply. You will need a transformer as well as an adaptor for the power supply.
The display will not be compatible. You will not be able to connect to an external VDU.
The DVD player will not play UK DVDs unless you get one with multi-region capability. Not sure about recording onto blank DVDs.
You will get no back up, technical support or guarantee so if anything goes wrong you are on you own.
Any Buetooth, wireless network or phone connections will not be compatible.
I believe that m y husband's company looked into buying their laptops in US but decided that the cost of making them useable far exceeded the cost savings.
