I have a freeview tv but don't get some of the promised channels (for example Dave). I've tried retuning but with no success. Would anyone have any suggestions as to where I've gone wrong or how to resolve this? I'm a bit annoyed as I did away with a perfectly good telly to get a digital one and I'm getting none of the benefits!

Has your Analogue signal been switched off yet ? It not some of the Digital Channels are on reduced power and will remain until you are Fully on Digital whlst Engineers are working on Transmitter etc
probably need to change your aerial for a decent wide band one (often, mistakenly, called a digital aerial)

(p.s. I very much doubt you were ever promised any channels)

Thanks for the quick response folks. No, analogue has not yet been switched off, so Redman you are probably right. Chuck, I have a fairly new aerial so will just make do for the mo and yes, I wasn't promised any channels but "thought" I might get more than ITV2,3 etc and QVC!
My freeview is rubbish at the moment but I do know they are working on the Emley Moor transmitter for the changeover next year......I'm just hoping things improve then.
Go on the freeview web site, and by typing in your post code it should tell you what channels you can expect to receive.
As others have said, you need to improve your aerial system (which means both the aerial AND the cabling). A signal booster might help but if a channel isn't there at all (rather than only intermittently available) it probably wouldn't be good enough to meet your requirements.

My posts here explain why you can receive some digital channels but not others (and why some might only be intermittently available):

Hi Chris, thanks a million for the info. I think we will just make do with what channels we have for now. Unfortunately as we are in a fairly remote part of NI we are not due for digital swicthover until 2012, but if I every have any spare cash I might just revise the whole aerial thing, as the guy up the road from us just got a new aerial system for his house and now gets all the channels perfectly. Thanks again!
