New computer came with German keyboard, didn't like it so replaced it with my old UK English one which now operates as if it was American. ie. the pound sybol shows # etc. Last time I requested help 'rojash' said "Set the keyboard in the control panel to match physical keyboard" How can I do this please? The troubleshooters says instal driver but I don't have one.

Goto the control panel > regional and language settings and change everything you can find to English UK instead of English USA.

(If you want more detailed instructions then you need to post more information yourself, such as what version of windows you are using)

Windows does not know which keyboard you are uysing so you have to tell it, it seems to be defaulting to a US keyboard.

As chuck says, you need to tell Windows you are using a UK keyboard. Make sure the "deault" keyboard is also not UK.

Brilliant! it worked like a charm, thanks a lot, you are very clever, I hope you are commensurately rich! around these parts guys are charging €80 per hour to impart such knowledge. Incidentally if your keyboard is without a euro symbol did you know you can get it by pressing cntrl + alt + 4.
Holding ALT while pressing 0128 on your numberpad will do the same.
