Do you have a battery operated fire alarm in you home? I just remembered, years ago I was visiting an old aunt and she told me she thought there was a bird trapped under the roof. She said she could hear it cheep. We listened quietly and sure enough there was a weak cheep, from the alarm telling her the batteries in the alarm needed replacing.
I know it is not the fire alarm or any other electronic device because it only makes the noise at night a few minutes after I turn off my lamp to go to sleep (this bug is somewhere in my house and I can't find it) It might be a type of cricket or grasshopper, but the noise is much louder and about 30 to 60 seconds apart.
