What mike?

What kind of mike would I need to record something from a cassette onto my pc? It dunner have to cost that much, as it will probably only be a one-off recording...and oh, if anyone has songtapper on their pc, would they do this on there, if I 'wrote out' the tune in taps? Ta Muchly.

Cassette players do not have 3.5 jacks. Portables do.
Hope cassette players will usually have phonos. So in this instance you would require a stereo phono plugs to 2.5mm stereo jack socket (lead)
You do not download Audacity if you don't have the sockets to do anything with!

A home cassette player will most likely have RCA Phonos (input & Output) on the back panel and possibly a 6.35mm headphone socket on the front. But a computer Line in will be 3.5mm, so a RCA phono to 3.5mm stereo jack would be the correct cable.

Play the cassette on your music system - on XP go to Start/Programs/Accessories/Entertainment/Soun

Recorder. Press the red button to record.

Press black button to stop recording & you'll be asked where to File - the rest is rocket science. n.b. no mike or cables required.

Many Thanks Dabees, I did get your email after all and I will try what you suggest, though I'm not very hopeful...and as you did ask in your mail, yes I do know what kind of music it is, it's a kind of light jazzy thing, with a snazzy riff/main tune, but it's only a couple of mins long with no title or group/band name.
