How can I delete a wrongly created dynamic volume
7 Answers
I added a second hard 2TB drive in XP SP3. A wizard popup asked me to create a dynamic volume. This was created as Drive D:\ and NTFS.
I now find I can not partition it using partioning software (partition commander 11) unless it is converted to a Simple Volume.
All options in Disk Management in Windows are greyed out. I cant delete this volume or convert to basic disk.
The procedure Convert a Dynamic Disk to a Basic Disk on Microsoft Support pages assumes you can do it through Disk Management but as I said they are greyed out and not available.
I am now stuck...can anyone advise please

As long as you are CERTAIN you have all of your data backed up, there is an open source linux program called PARTD that you can download from http:// www. distrowatch. com . Download the file and burn it to a DVD and then boot off of that DVD. It is very powerful, so just remember to make sure you verify that you can take the chance with it.
