How often should a new mobile phone need charged?

Was wondering what the average life of a fully charged mobile is?.I have a new Sony Ericsson which I need to charge every other day.I do keep it switched on all the time and send maybe five texts a day and hardly make any calls.I'm sure other phones in the past seem to have lasted longer on a full charge.Didn't want to take it back if this was normal. If you don't use it for internet use switch off 3G and just leave it on GSM only and your battery life will increase dramatically.

Every other day seems quite often, mine usually last 3-4 days and my use is similar to yours

How long have you had the phone,Do you use the internet, is your bluetooth on and how many minutes/hours a day do you talk for?

battery useage can be severely affected by signal strength. If this is weak then the phone will be constantly searching for a signal and this will deplete battery life. Also having things like bluetooth switched on all the time drains batteries. Every other day doesn't sound too bad. make sure that the battery is fully discharged before recharging as this aids battery life long-term.

It will also depend on the signal level where you are most the time, the lower the signal the higher power the phone needs to run it's transmitter at so the battery is used up quicker.

Sorry i just seen that your phone is new, which sony erricsson is it and what is the average standby and talktime for that model?

Not the case with new LI-ion batteries, they have no memory effect and can be charged before they are empty with no detrimental effects.

I've had my sony ericsson for a couple of months.I don't use internet or blue tooth.Its K608i model.I hardly use it for talking on and on average five texts.Its not a real problem charging every other day, I just wondered if I had a faulty one as I have never charged any previous ones so often.

CAS... yes, pretty much all modern stuff has a li-ion battery now.

As per my first answer, if you don't use the internet on it turn off 3G.

Cheers chuck. I've been needlesly following my own advice for about a year then! I did wonder what happened when it gets stuck in the dock and automatically charges.
