This went the rounds in the 1960's and was a funny spoof in "germanese" about not interfering with machines !Very grateful if anyone can recall it so that I can print it out for my computer tech friends !!
"So if you want to get on the beach before the Germans ... you'd better buy an Audi 100. Vorsprung durch Technik .. as they say in Germany, Holland, Italy, Spain, Denmark........."
Achtung! Das machine is nicht fur der fingerpoken und mittengraben...

You're right ! It was a red herring. When I first heard about it in the 1960's I didn' town a computer and neither did any of my friends so I just presumed it referred to cars. Thanks again for the link; I've passed it on. Wonderful stuff !
Thanks Yorkshirelass,
I've been trying to find a copy of this for years, and years, and years. Well at my age you've seen a few things but don't necessarily remember where you left them! I saw my version on a machine in a chemistry laboratory in Thorn EMI Electronics (it's OK, not advertising 'cos they sadly no longer exist) where they had lots of visitors who did "fingerpoken"!
Thanks for reminding me ! I first heard it in the Physical Chemistry Lab at The Radcliffe Infirmary where I was a (very bad) technician. It was told to me by a German undergraduate called Hector. This must have been 45 years ago; I often wonder what happened to all those nutters who worked there !! We had great fun !
