My laptop is now unusable, because i stupidly opened a spam mail by mistake. It was an UPS parcel delivery email. but when i tried to open it , it started taking me around in circles, and in the finish gave me a virus.
At present i have a AVG anti-virus
any advice would be appreciated

OK, I don't know much about Macs in any form, or the software that runs on them, but it should be possible for you to save the attachment from the email to the disc on your Mac. Do NOT try to OPEN or run the attachment, just SAVE it to disc. Try right clicking on it in your email program and see if there is a save option for the file - that should let you save it to your Mac's disc or, if the USB stick is plugged in, you may be able to save it directly to the stick. If you have to save it to the hard disc on the Mac, do so and copy it to the USB stick afterwards.
