Didn`t know whether to put this here or body and soul but I thought it might be more medical science.
When I`m extremely tired I tremble but it`s like an internal trembling. One of my colleagues has a sister-in-law who is a surgeon and she said that one`s internal organs go into a short, temporary resting phase at some point and because I`m awake I feel this. I`m talking about after no sleep for at least 24 hours plus which is a fairly common occurance for my colleagues and I and we all feel this `internal trembling`.
Could this be the reason?

I used to get this when I was working 12 hr. night shifts. My GP said it could be mild hypoglycaemia or low blood sugar. Get some glucose tablets from the chemists and take a couple of them if it starts again. See if this stops it.

I don`t think it is Graham because it seems to last fairly short periods of time (about 20 mins) then goes away again
still can be hypo...the body gets low and the liver releases stored glycogen so the body recovers....trying the glucose tabs is good advice.
I get this sometimes when I wake up - usually if I've fallen asleep on the couch and something wakes me. It only last a couple of minutes or so and it's only started in the last couple of years.
My lawnmower does something similar when its running out of gas. Wake me up when you have the results of this experiment . . . or when breakfast is ready.
Question Author
mibn - is that why you keep leaning against your lawnmower?
Thanks everyone but I still don`t think it`s a hypo thing because it continues even when my colleages and I eat.
237SJ.......Google "Sleep deprivation" and the trembling will be explained in a scientific way.

Thank you I`ll do that
<<One of my colleagues has a sister-in-law who is a surgeon and she said that one`s internal organs go into a short, temporary resting phase at some point<<<

I hope that one of the "organs" isn´t the heart or kidneys.
Sorry to hijack....

Sqad... is there any advice on how to manage sleep paralysis?
237SJ, You suppose I had it coming . . . ;o)
NoM I am not an expert on sleep disorders, but what do you mean by "sleep paralysis?"
Question Author
Nomercy, there are some very interesting articles on the internet about sleep paralysis. Narcolepsy etc. Google it. It`s quite intertesting...
Sqad... I mean waking up and not being able to move or call out.

Thanks, 237.
NM - Don't panic, breath and lie there. Just keep telling yourself that your body is just catching up with your mind and it will pass... I was quite freaked out when it first happened to me and I still hate when it does but knowing what it is helps. I've never been able to predict it.
China... do you suffer from clicking jaw?

There may be a link between the two, and I suffer with both.
Nope, no clicking jaw I'm afraid.
Well I haven't had an attack of sleep paralysis in ages and it usually only occurs during times of severe stress. Trouble is, if I go ages without it happening, I get freaked out when it does. When I suffered with it regularly in my younger years, I mastered it.
My Dad (a GP) always says that if you feel faint or hypoglycaemic to drink something warm and sweet - eg, fairly heavily sugared herbal tea. I would also recommend (if it is to do with low blood sugar) lucozade.

Answerprancer- Thanks. It`s absolutely nothing to do with lack of food. Have you ever come back from holidays and you have flown from the other side of the world? Well, when you get back and you feel like s**t and you just want to eat Ambrosia Creamed Rice or mashed potato because your body needs carbohydrates? Give it another 12 hours and your will be trembling inside. Maybe I`ve been doing something wrong all these years and I just need a few glasses of a good Rioja. Cheers!
