phone calls from a company on behalf of microsoft windows

II keep getting phonecalls from someone with an Indian accent telling me my computer has serious problems and microsoft has employed many companies to telephone everyone with these problems and talk them through solving them. He emphasises he will not take over my pc and will simply instruct me what to do. He gave me a phone number 020 331 83462 which I haven't called yet. When I say I have no problem with my pc he tells me he will show me how to find the problem. It does run slow but it is about 10 years old and I guess it needs a clean out. Can anyone tell me whether this is a known problem with microsoft or am I being targeted by someone.

Do not phone the number. They will try to sell you software that is supposed to clean up your computer and make it faster. It won't and will probably just install a virus.

Scam, just ignore them

He tells you to look in the System Event Log .
and the Prefetch folder .. They claim these are errors and problems.

I DO hope they call me : )
