We currently have a 1 metre 4 gang extension lead with two bunches of those twig & light sets that you see in large vases plugged in. The leads from the lights plug into those square transformers which are plugged into the extension lead. It isn't used for long periods at a time or left on while we are out so have felt comfortable to use them like this so far.

We would like to use a remote controlled socket to make it easier to switch the wall socket on & off as we have to reach down behind a sideboard and this cannot be moved but this would protrude in excess of the current clearance behind the sideboard.

Question is ... Is it safe to plug a 1 meter single gang extension lead into the wall socket, plug the remote controlled socket into the single gang lead and then plug the original 4 gang extension with the twig/lights connected into the remote controlled socket wall socket to switch the whole lot on & off.

I think I know the answer but but I was wondering if it was possible due to total amount of amps etc. involved.

Thanks in advance ...

Yes .. That's plenty safe enough .. There is probably less that half an amp being drawn. The remote control socket can easily handle this .. I would expect it to be rated at 1500-2000w ish.

Thanks Albags, that's a relief to know. I was concerned about connecting extension leads together as I always thought that was a big no no let alone an additional switch but was hoping the low demand would make it still safe to use.
